Church of the Regeneration
The thrift shop’s mission is to serve the community by offering well cared for clothing and sundry household items. The thrift shop’s mission extends to donations to people and organizations in need. Moreover, the thrift shop proceeds are pledged in tithe to Regeneration to fund in part other outreach efforts.
The church opened the thrift shop in May 2009. The thrift shop, cleverly named “Regenerated”, sits at the east end of the church building. It is open on Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for customers and those offering to make donations. The thrift shop aims for the look of a boutique, but with thrift shop prices.
The idea of a thrift shop originated with an old garage that the church used for a yearly yard sale. Although well received by the Pine Plains community, the yard sale occurred too infrequently to get traction within the community, and so the church decided to open this format to the public every weekend.
The church bought and combined two pre-fabricated buildings from Bay Horse in Milan, one for storage and the other for sales. A local carpenter helped the church to finish the building from the inside and many of the parish men and women, as well as volunteers from the community, helped the church establish the physical plant. The parishioners donated all the money to buy and finish the thrift shop.
How to Donate
Donations are greatly appreciated and accepted on any days that we are open. Come and visit us on Friday or Saturday between 10 am and 2 pm.
How to Volunteer
The church staffs the thrift shop with volunteering parishioners as well as with quite a few volunteers who do not attend the church. The church appreciates the dedication and loyalty of all its thrift shop volunteers.
